ABOUT AVCHD FORMAT
According to the official AVCHD(tm) information website:
"The "AVCHD" is a brand new high definition (HD) digital video camera recorder format recording 1080i and 720p signals onto certain media by using highly efficient codec technologies. The "AVCHD" is jointly established by Panasonic, the brand name for which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known and Sony Corporation."
AVCHD stands for Advanced Video Codec High Definition, and uses the highly efficient MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) codec to create MPEG-2 quality (HDV) in smaller file sizes.
All movies on the AVCHDClips.com website are Sony AVCHD files. All movies were shot on Sony equipment and are provided in their native 1080i format. Files in the .m2ts format WILL NOT PLAY in a Blu-ray(tm) player until they are finalized through an editing platform. Files in the .m2ts WILL PLAY on a Sony Playstation 3(tm) without being finalized, and they WILL PLAY utilizing the Sony Motion Picture Browser software that accompanies Sony AVCHD camcorders. AVCHD files WILL NOT PLAY in Windows Media Player 11.
There are currently several products out there which support the import or editing of AVCHD format files. These include, but are not limited to, Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Apple's Final Cut Pro and Express support AVCHD, but only via direct import from and AVCHD camera or camera archive. AVCHDClips.com does not endorse any of these products, nor do we consider this to be an inclusive list. This is simply to give users places to look for editing solutions. We suggest trying out these and other products to find an editing platform before purchasing clips from AVCHDClips.com.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT FROM OUR COMPETITORS?
The high quality and relatively small file size of AVCHD format files allows us to deliver more clips with longer durations. It isn't unheard of for a company to charge over $500 for a single DVD with only 20 to 30 clips that are all less than 20 seconds long. Often this allows us to also deliver multiple shots of the same area to better fit your needs.
PC and Mac users: Check out these products by Shedworx for working with AVCHD.
